Blood Testing Services – Service Disruption

July 2025 – GP practices in Rushcliffe use Nottinghamshire University Hospitals (NUH) pathology services to complete our blood tests. Once we have taken bloods in the surgery, they are sent to NUH who analyse the blood for us and send us the results.

NUH introduced a new pathology system at the start of July. This was required, but unfortunately the change has led to severe disruption and hugely increased workload for GP practices.

Managing this work safely is having an impact on the capacity that we can provide for patient care and is affecting GP practices county-wide.

We are all working hard to get NUH to resolve these issues urgently. Please bear with us if results and services are slower than usual.

October 2025 Update – Unfortunately, the Practice has been further disrupted by the above system change in that some results are being sent to the Practice in large batches. This has placed significant pressure on the Practice as we try to manage the workload. Patients should be aware that the impact of this is that our capacity to provide appointments has been severely reduced.

It is regrettable that we have had to take the action of reducing appointment capacity. Being able to provide safe care to patients is the highest priority to the Practice.
